There are a lot of cool hotels in the world. Some of them can be found on top of the moments while some of them are several feet below the sea. However, a hotel located in Northern Finland is branded as the “coolest” hotel because it is literally cool: It’s curved in ice.

The World’s Coolest

The Luvattumaa Hotel is made up of 10,000 square meters of ice. This hotel is located in a forest just outside Levi, Northern Finland.

Luvattumaa Hotel is a seasonal ice hotel. It opens during the winter season. To build it, 800 truckloads of ice were used. The structure itself is made of 10,000 square meters of ice. It was initially an art gallery and part hotel before it transitioned into a guest house.

Luvattumaa will be open for business and visits until December 12 this year. Visitors can book any of their 12 available bedrooms.

How It Was Made

Skilled sculptors have to use huge ice cubes from the Ounasjoki River which is 50 to 100 meters away from the hotel’s location. They also need to lift these ice cubes back to the hotel. Once winter is gone, the ice carvings will melt into water. According to Maja Palosaari of Destination Levi, the most difficult part of building the “cool” hotel is the 10-meter high snow dome because of its shape.

Almost 1500 to 2500 guests are expected to grace the 12 bedrooms of Luvattumaa. There is also an estimated 40 to 60 weddings booked at the accommodation. The price for a standard room here is at $135 while the bigger suites are pegged at $376.
